Rackspace is a global organisation recognised as a company of experts, delivering a world-class support experience on the world’s leading technology platforms. As part of our Asia expansion plans for Asia, we are seeking an experienced and accomplished Azure Specialist Solutions Architect, who will act as the lead architect and the technical-face of our Hong Kong Azure technology practice.


Our Hong Kong office is Rackspace’s Asian headquarters. The team here is tasked with making Rackspace the go-to brand for managed solutions on the leading cloud vendors, in the Greater China Region. The core mission of this role is to engage with our customers and be their trusted advisor, providing architectural advice and thought leadership for workloads running on the Azure platform, while delivering supported solutions that meet their business and technical needs. You will primarily work with mid-market-sized clients based primarily in Hong Kong. In this multifaceted role, you will work closely with our sales, marketing, professional services and service delivery teams to define and grow our Azure Practice in Asia, while also evangelizing Rackspace and Azure in industry and community events. Beyond Azure, we also encourage learning across other technology platforms, to grow our team’s capabilities and the your thirst for learning.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pre-sales architect, who confident in Azure and with a keenness to learn and grow. The right candidate for the role will have multiple years’ experience with Azure and a strong ability to engage with CxO audiences, business and technical influencers and IT Pros. Ideally, you have served as a subject matter expert in designing, migrating and implementing complex platforms on cloud.

Key Accountabilities


  • Educate customers of all sizes on the value proposition of managed services on Azure
  • Lead architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed successfully on Azure. This potentially includes understanding complex applications that may need to sit across several service levels and technologies.
  • Work closely with the Rackspace Asia team to lead Azure-focused strategic initiatives for the region and provide strategic guidance on the direction of the Azure managed services offering for Asia.
  • In collaboration with the sales teams, drive revenue growth across a broad set of customers based in a number of verticals.
  • In collaboration with the service delivery teams, perform regular reviews of existing customer architectures to optimize and evolve their environments for ongoing value.
  • In collaboration with the professional services teams, utilize your expertise and experience to enhance our standard capabilities with customized offerings, including running cloud transformation workshops and customer training classes.
  • In collaboration with the marketing team, evangelize and provide thought-leadership for Azure technologies and Rackspace managed services via industry and community events. This includes speaking at industry conferences, presenting webinars, engaging in community events and writing thought-leadership articles.
  • As the technical Azure expert, provide regular training sessions to educate your peers to collectively improve the knowledge and capabilities of the office.
  • Act as the liaison between customers, sales, service engineering teams, finance and support.
    Work directly with the Azure Hong Kong team to provide Rackspace representation on opportunities.
  • Perform activities in conjunction with the Azure partner manager to nurture and grow the already established partnership. This may include working with the Azure Solutions Architects and Sales Teams and assisting in the creation of Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the Azure technical and partner communities.
  • Continually develop technical skills on technologies within the Rackspace portfolio to grow your own knowledge and skills.




Technical Skills

  • A deep understanding of Cloud Computing – IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. In addition the right candidate will have the following skills:
  • Deep expertise in the Azure components & APIs
  • Expert working knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and Linux). 
  • Advanced knowledge of databases (SQL Server and MySQL)
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant web services, mail, backup, and application monitoring  
  • Good knowledge of networking fundamentals
  • Good knowledge of application developments using Agile, and DevOps good practices
  • Good knowledge of digital commerce and content platforms is advantageous, including: Sitecore, Hybris, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Magnolia, Oracle Commerce Suite (ATG), Magento
  • Good knowledge of additional cloud platforms is advantageous, including: Microsoft Azure and Google Compute.
  • One or some of these would accreditations be advantageous: MCSA: Cloud Platform, MCSE Cloud Platform and Infrastructure, MCSD: Azure Solutions Architect, Certifications (70-532, 70-533, 70-534)

  • Strong negotiation and objection handling skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English; both written and verbal with great attention to detail.  Additional known languages is beneficial.
  • Have experience in providing mentoring for team members and Sales Representatives
  • 2+ years’ experience in public cloud based infrastructure design
  • 3+ years’ experience in technical pre-sales
  • Experience leading technical workshops exploring requirements and mapping solutions.
  • Provide authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders with regard to terms of service within a contract
  • Have experience with developing ‘win themes’ and customisation of value propositions to client needs and write technical responses to bids (RFPs & RFIs)
  • Public Speaking and evangelism skills that is able to relate to both large and small audiences as well as technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be proficient in English.  Cantonese and/or Mandarin are strongly preferred.
