Rackspace is recognised as a company of experts, delivering world-class cloud service and a superior support experience on the world’s leading technology platforms. As part of our managed cloud strategy we are seeking an experienced and accomplished Lead Specialist Architect to fill key a position within our specialist pre-sales team. The role has two key aspects, firstly the ability to lead members of a highly technical architects and secondly to directly engage with customers looking to move to the cloud.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pre-sales or technical professional confident in public cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, and Google. The role is customer facing, working closely with business and technical influencers, IT Pros, and Rackspace partners in understanding the technical strategy, competitive differentiation, and value proposition of our solutions. The role also enables you to interact with the team that develops, deploys, and operates our cloud offerings.
You will have multiple years’ experience serving as a subject matter expert in designing and migrating applications to live in the cloud, a strong mix of client-facing skills (managing workshops and presentations), and a passion for technology problem-solving.
From the leadership perspective, the role centres on managing the operational delivery for a part of the Specialist Architecture function. This includes:
 Managing a pipeline of multiple diverse customer engagements
 Managing and communicating to multiple stakeholders and team members
 Leading the team from the front by demonstrating usage of architecture practices and pre-sales techniques
 Driving initiatives to improve the efficiency and speed of engagements
 Understanding and disseminating changes in company policy and strategy to team members
This role is ideal for someone who has previously worked in a leadership role and worked in a client-facing technical architecture role. This person will be happy to apply their experience to complex problems, and get hands-on as required.


 Able to understand all technical aspects of complex technical estates
 Deep understanding of Cloud Computing – IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
 Good knowledge of application developments using Agile, and DevOps good practices
 Able to deliver assessment and design workshops autonomously
 Can produce appropriate documented assets for highly complex estates
 Can conduct customer training, education and walkthroughs
 Can articulate best practice approaches and practices
 Oversees all best practices and methods used within the team
 Own opportunity allocation and team workflows
 Own the continued improvement and development of both the team and individual Specialist Architects
 Drive continuous improvement within the team
 Contribute to the generation of new business for Rackspace
Pre-Sales Engagement
 Contribute to the preparation of proposals, RFP/RFI responses, & Statements of Work (SoW). This includes the analysis and development of scope and duration
 Regularly collaborates with Sales pursuit teams, Professional Services, Solutions Architects, Partners, and extended cross-functional teams during presales and project delivery to ensure timely delivery and awareness of potential problems or risk requiring resolution or mitigation.

 Client-facing architecture experience with large organisations, ideally blue-chip, but happy to deliver to SMEs
 Experience leading technical workshops exploring requirements and mapping solutions.
 Direct leadership experience for small to medium sized teams
 Provide authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders with regard to terms of service within a contract
 A high level of business awareness and commercial acumen
 Have experience with developing ‘win themes’ and customisation of value propositions to client needs and write technical responses to bids (RFPs & RFIs)
 Able to evangelise disruptive proposals when necessary
